The European Gaming and Betting Association Reports Increased Use of Safer Gambling Tools
The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) recently released its Annual Activity Report for 2025, highlighting the organization’s accomplishments over the past year. One of the key achievements noted in the report was the growing utilization of safer gambling tools among consumers in Europe.
Expanding Safer Gambling Initiatives
The EGBA detailed a number of successes in various areas. Notably, the association successfully expanded its European Safer Gambling Week initiative to include a record 26 countries. With 195 stakeholders participating, the campaign reached a total of 3 million customers.
Moreover, the EGBA reported a record-breaking number of customers utilizing safer gaming tools. Over 21 million customers, representing 65% of member operators’ player base, took advantage of available mechanisms to set limits and protect themselves from potential harm.
Additionally, EGBA members sent out 67 million safer gaming messages to their players.
Promotion of Responsible Gambling
Besides promoting the use of safer gambling tools, the EGBA conducted a second monitoring exercise of its pan-European responsible advertising code. The association also advanced its anti-money laundering (AML) initiatives by organizing educational workshops.
The EGBA also welcomed new operators to its ranks, including Superbet Group, LeoVegas Group, and Sumsub. With members across 21 regulated European markets holding a total of 321 licenses, the association continues to expand its influence.
Financial Performance and Growth
Financial data released by the EGBA highlighted a 15% growth in total iGaming Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) for its members’ online gaming operations. In 2024, online operators reported EUR 13.5 billion in revenue, with 51% coming from online casino games and 41% from online sports betting.
Poker and bingo accounted for 4% and 2% of the GGR respectively, while esports and virtual betting each had a 1% share. EGBA members’ revenue represented about one-third of all online GGR in Europe, with a total of 177.7 billion stakes processed in 2024, marking a 31% increase year-on-year.
Players won EUR 202.1 billion in 2024, reflecting a Return to Player (RTP) rate of 93.7%.
Future Outlook and Expectations
Maarten Haijer, the EGBA’s secretary general, expressed optimism about the association’s achievements in 2024 and emphasized the importance of expanding safer gambling initiatives. He also highlighted the anticipated developments in Finland, where a transition from a gambling monopoly to a multi-licensing framework is imminent.
