MGM Resorts International Advances BetMGM Management in Collaboration with Entain
MGM Resorts International, a prominent gaming and hospitality operator on the illustrious Las Vegas Strip, has taken a significant step towards overseeing BetMGM, a joint venture with Entain. The process has gained momentum following a recent hearing with the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB).
MGM Resorts to Operate Nine Sportsbooks on the Las Vegas Strip
According to the proposed plan, MGM will oversee the operation of a total of nine sportsbooks on the Las Vegas Strip. Utilizing technology provided by Entain, MGM will manage the sportsbooks from a central hub based at Mandalay Bay. The company will be responsible for the retail betting venues at New York-New York, Bellagio, Aria, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Park MGM, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Luxor, and Excalibur. During the recent NGCB hearing, MGM assured that all relevant employees requiring licensing would obtain them and that they will comply with anti-money laundering laws and other regulations.
NGCB Unanimously Approves Strategic Move
Entain recently announced the departure of its CEO, Gavin Isaacs. Despite assuming the role in September, Isaacs stepped down immediately, with Stella David, the former interim CEO, once again leading the company on an interim basis. The sudden leadership change raised eyebrows at the NGCB, prompting questions from the Board regarding the reasons for Isaacs’ swift departure after just five months. NGCB Chairman Kirk Hendrick emphasized the importance of clarity during this CEO transition period.
Discussions during the NGCB meeting also touched on Entain’s challenges in Australia, where accusations from AUSTRAC in December alleged mismanagement of anti-money-laundering policies by the company’s management and Board. After a thorough hour-long hearing, the NGCB unanimously recommended an amended registration order, granting MGM employees the authority to oversee the company’s sportsbooks on the Las Vegas Strip. The proposal is now set for review by the Nevada Gaming Commission and is anticipated to be presented to the Commission on February 27, 2025.
